K9 units change behaviour at the fence. Thieves who will ignore a silent camera often leave when a dog and handler walk the compound. That is useful on isolated Yorkshire and Lincolnshire sites, on Midlands logistics builds, and on inner-London frames with a history of occupation.

Dogs do not replace a licence

The handler still needs the correct SIA licence for the guarding activity. The dog is not a legal shortcut. Welfare, insurance, and public-facing routes (school runs past the hoarding in Birmingham or Leeds) all have to be in the RAMS.

Combine deterrence with evidence

A K9 tour that is not logged is still a story. We run QR + GPS checkpoints alongside, so the client in Manchester or Glasgow can see that the back fence was actually walked. Incident photos still go in the portal.

When not to specify K9

Tight city pavements with constant public interface, indoor shopping centres, and hospitals are usually the wrong place. Use door teams and concierge there. Ask us honestly: Hull and Doncaster compounds often benefit; a West End loading bay rarely does.

Frequently asked questions

Are your K9 teams available UK-wide?

We deploy where the risk and the public interface justify it. Ask per site.

Will a dog search a festival?

That is a different specialist brief. Do not assume construction K9 equals event detection dogs.

Does K9 reduce officer numbers?

Sometimes at night on a large compound. Never below a safe, licensed minimum.
